My creative process

Feminine Pelvic Bowl Meditation (North Carolina)

I let my emotions and energy guide my creative process. Rather than beginning with a sketch of what I wish to create, I begin seated and in meditative state, silently connecting with my breath. I notice the sounds around me, the sensations in my body and breathe. The sensations in my body inform the gentle movement through yoga poses, that my body needs in the moment.

Sometimes, I remain seated, swirling around in circles from the base of my hips. I focus on the perineum connected to the earth and the reciprocal flow of energy out of my body, into the earth and also the flow of the healing energy of the earth up through the root of my body and the core of my being.

Sometimes my body cannot be still and the energy stuck in my body needs to escape with shaking, tapping, jumping or quick power yoga flows.

The embodiment practices help me quiet my racing thoughts and tune into the messages coming forth from my soul.

I return to seated position to begin with the clay, if I am called to create an object, vessel, sculpture, being. This transforms several times during the creation process and when fired/completed I am able to see an even deeper message than received when creating the piece.

I enjoy sitting in nature, under a tree to create a piece that I intentionally focus love and gratitude for all beings connected to this tree. At the conclusion of this practice the raw clay is left in earth, to gently return to the earth after each rainfall and drying/flaking from the varying amounts of water delicately eroding the form but carrying the intention in the network of mycelium that connects all trees, and beings.

If my anger and rage must be channeled, the clay receives punching, throwing and more in a raw state. The clay in a fired state can also receive any messages written, symbolized of placed energetically and then smashed.

Open heart bowl placed at base of tree as prayer for open hearts of all the people.
